This spring, Akimbo is offering two all-in-one social media workshops focusing on the different needs of individual artists and those working in cultural organizations.

Learn to create great content. Get to know how to manage it without spending all day online. Convert what you’re already doing into more sales, more website visitors and greater attendance at your events. Understand what metrics and analytics numbers mean and how you can use them to improve your strategies.

Location: All courses and workshops take place at Akimbo Headquarters: 80 Spadina Ave., Suite 208, Toronto, Ontario.

Social Media for Artists

Please ensure you have a Facebook Page and Twitter Profile set up in advance. 

Developed specifically for artists who are using social media as a self-promotional tool, this hands-on advanced workshop will walk you through how to better engage your audience, build awareness and improve your call to action. You will learn various ways to capitalize on in-platform design elements as well as how to get the most out of your existing assets/content. Develop a solid content plan and find out how to generate interesting content. You will also learn how to effectively use management tools like Hootsuite and why including sharing tools can lead to greater audience building. Gain useful practical strategies for monitoring various platforms to identify leads for contacts or sales. You will go through a step by step guide to integrating these platforms into a larger self promotion program. Lastly, learn how metrics tools can help identify which of your social media platforms and initiatives are working for you and what needs improvement.


Registration is open to individual artists who want to learn more about how to use social media tools in their professional careers.

Developed for those people working in cultural organizations who use social media to promote their organization and programs, this hands-on workshop will show you how to get your messaging right and learn how to develop a great content plan, build and schedule inventory, manage your message and team workflow through a social media dashboard. You will learn to incorporate linking & sharing tools to amplify your message and further build your audience. Get to know how to develop a sharp listening program through various online and in-platform monitoring tools. Learn to identify leads for event participants, membership and sales. Become familiar with various external and internal metrics tools to help identify which parts of your social media communications program are working and how to improve your initiatives.  

Registration is open to people working in cultural organizations who want to learn more about how to use social media tools to promote their organization and programs.

Workshop Instructor:

james 

James Fowler is Akimbo's Social Media Director, and blogger for ART+TECH at akimbo.ca. He has a background in sales at Canada Newswire working with corporations and organizations in various industries to streamline their media messaging, monitoring and metrics. He has worked with public relations firms and the executive of publicly traded companies on the TSX and NASDAQ to help achieve their communications goals.  James currently maintains a full-time studio practice in Toronto and is represented by Oeno Gallery. James began The 10x10 Photography Project in 2011 and this year is co-curating the Church Street Mural Project in partnership with the Church Wellesley Village BIA.  He takes a keen interest in social commerce and eMarketing and joined Akimbo in the Spring of 2011 as Social Media Director.

Fees must be paid in full at time of registration. Payment of fees is the only way to reserve a spot. Payment may be made through PayPal with your bank account, credit card, or PayPal balance. Please note that class size is limited, so register early. In the case of insufficient enrollment, Akimbo reserves the right to cancel a workshop five days prior to the start date. If you must withdraw from a course or workshop, Akimbo must be notified three business days before the workshop begins in order to receive a refund, less a cancellation fee of $20. Akimbo is not able to provide make-up workshops or substitutions.
