
Introduction to Fine Art at Algonquin College

The Introduction to Fine Art program offers a one-year college certificate that familiarizes students with career and academic paths related to fine art. Courses in painting, drawing, sculpture and print making offer hands-on studio experience. Career workshops and a Business of Art course highlight employment opportunities aligned with fine art and practical strategies to pursue a career as a professional artist.
This one-year certificate is ideal for individuals that:
- Want to explore career and academic paths aligned with fine art, including the following: professional artist, arts administration, gallery programming, municipal arts, collections management, conservation and restoration, art history, gallery director, arts education, arts marketing and development, arts advocacy, graphic design, interior design, and animation
- Want to prepare a portfolio for applications to university fine art programs
- Are seeking hands-on studio experience at the introductory level
- Are curious about the various galleries, municipal arts organizations, and art sectors that operate within major Canadian cities such as Ottawa
- Are seeking knowledge about historical and contemporary art in relation to popular culture and identity
