Not just cut & paste. Running With Scissors offers weeklong programs that encourage freethinking and self-expression through the visual arts. The programs are designed to introduce contemporary art to children and youth (ages 5-8 and 9-12). Campers will explore new ways of being creative beyond the usual arts and crafts. All camps spend a minimum of two hours outside each day.

Camps run Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, unless otherwise noted.
Extended care is available.

Art and the Moving Image
Week One, July 5 - 9
  (FULL)

Animation, television, movies? Are they art? Campers will explore the world of the moving image as a form of expression beyond commercials and entertainment. Learning the principles of the video camera, each camper will be given the tools to create movies and cartoons, and to discover a world of images for kids by kids! $200

Outdoor Art
Week Two, July 12 - 16 (Limited space in the 9-12 age group only)

The whole world is your canvas! Armed with trowels, buckets and shovels campers will create art in and amongst the lush woodlands using organic and inorganic materials. Campers will learn about the importance of space, location and environment when creating any work of art, and will get their hands dirty while doing it! $200

Analog and Digital Photography
Week Three, July 19 - 23

Shutterbugs wanted! Learn about the origins and future of photography by exploring both the digital camera and the dark room. Campers who want to learn more about the world of photographs will be given the chance to try film based photography, while adapting it to a digital world. $215

Sculpture: Traditional Techniques, New Ideas
Week Four, July 26 - 30 (Limited space in 5-8 and 9-12 age groups)

Break out of the mould! Campers will use clay, plaster, papier-mâché, fabric, and found objects to construct 3-D art in the studio and out on the UTM grounds. Great for kids who like to work with their hands! Campers will learn how to use some familiar materials in unusual ways. $200

Experimental Drawing and Painting
Week Five, August 3 - 6 
 
(Limited space in the 9-12 age group only)

Still painting still lifes? Explore the possibilities of drawing and painting outside of the box. Drip paint like Jackson Pollock. Draw with flashlights and capture the light graffiti on camera. Campers will build and use automatic drawing gadgets and forage in the woods for materials to make their own brushes and inks. $160 (no Monday class due to Civic Holiday)

Mixed Media and Digital Art
Week Six, August 9 - 13 
 (FULL)

Cut, paste, scan and remix! Campers will try their hand at painting, collage, Photoshop, Flash, print, and more to create a new art form distinctively unique to each camper's individual imagination. For the kid who loves to get messy and try everything, this camp explores the endless possibilities when old and new art forms collide. $200
