Tracing the writings and drawings of Anna Brownell Jameson’s 1837 Canoe Trek
Aug 20-26
Manitoulin Island
Travel with writers and artists Tom Gerry and Sophie Edwards, along with professional canoe guide Chris Taggert. This program for artists, writers, photographers, and art/literary historians provides time along the trek for creative research and exploration. Each day will feature talks about local art, history, and culture.
We begin our creative adventure in Little Current, Manitoulin Island, then travel to Thessalon, from where we travel along the North Shore, including the famous Benjamin Islands, ending at Great La Cloche Island where we meet a local Ojibwe storyteller who will tell the story of this sacred Anishnaabek site.
Tom Gerry is a musician, writer, and English professor at Laurentian University. Sophie Edwards is a community arts animator, artist and writer who is currently researching story and place in her doctoral studies at Queen’s.
