Terra Brasilis:
Contemporary Brazilian Photography Questioning Contemporary Brazilian Land & Culture

Curated by Kadija de Paula

May 3-14, 2006
Opening May 5, 7-11 PM

This exhibition juxtaposes the work of two Brazilian photographers who take different approaches to represent similar issues around post and neo colonial effects over the land and society.  Dr. Rosa Berardo uses the photographic medium as a documentation tool that registers the impact of global forces over the Brazilian Indians of the Xingu National Park. On the other hand, the multimedia artist Clayton Camargo Junior, digitally interferes on appropriated vintage images and found family snap shots to comment on culture jam and ecological transformations.

"Terra Brasilis: Contemporary Brazilian Photography Questioning Contemporary Brazilian Land & Culture" intends to bring a South American Photographic Perspective to the 10th Contact Photography Festival of Toronto with a view of the exotica and contemporary.
