Open Studio

Open Studio is a non-profit, charitable artist-run centre for contemporary printmaking practice, providing multi-faceted services, facilities, programs and information to artists and the public.

Accepting Applications for: Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant is a part-time contract position. The Administrative Assistant will be tasked with providing front-of-house support, assisting with communications, facilitating sales in the studio shop, processing payments and updating paper and digital accounts. The Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support for all staff and assist with a variety of programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general clerical duties including but not limited to: answering phones, responding to walk-in enquiries, emails, processing mail and file management
  • Assist with processing sales, updating accounts and coordinating bank deposits
  • Assist with information updates to the database, e-commerce store and website
  • Assist with artwork cataloguing and documentation
  • Provide education programming support, assisting with registration and preparing course packages
  • Provide exhibition programming and special event support, including but not limited to: arranging for volunteers, coordinating reception setup and assisting with general event preparations

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years recent related experience providing front-line service
  • Experience in retail sales is considered an asset
  • Background in fine art, museum studies, arts administration or similar is considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills in MS Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop and Wordpress are considered assets
  • Knowledge of, and respect for, diverse aesthetic, cultural and ideological points of view and the ability to facilitate productive exchange
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team member in a small, open and busy environment

Contract Part-time Position, 20 hours/week

Salary: $14/hr and rent-free studio access (except for studio storage fees), pending review, as well as access to the organization’s education programs.

Accepting Applications for: Technical Assistant

Position Summary:

The Technical Assistant is a part-time position. Working closely with The Technical Director, the Technical Assistant will work to maintain a safe and accessible print studio and assist with day-to-day studio operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fill studio orders and track inventory
  • Help maintain studio environmental health and safety policies and general tidiness
  • Provide education programming support
  • Refill studio consumables and work with the Technical Director to order new supplies
  • Perform studio orientations as directed
  • Provide basic equipment maintenance as directed
  • Assist with organizing volunteer positions for the studio
  • Assist with maintaining studio storage
  • Suggest studio improvements and work to implement them
  • Other studio related tasks as directed

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or college degree in printmaking or similar experience
  • Sound knowledge of a working printmaking studio
  • Demonstrated excellent technical skills in one or more areas including: screenprinting, intaglio, relief, letterpress, lithography
  • Demonstrated community engagement in fine arts
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with artist members to build an open, friendly and inclusive environment
  • Able to physically maintain a studio (may need to lift up to 50lbs)
  • Knowledge of, and respect for, diverse aesthetic, cultural and ideological points of view and the ability to facilitate productive exchange
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team member in a small, open and busy environment

Contract Part-time Position, 20 hours/week

Salary: $14/hr and rent-free studio access (except for studio storage fees), pending review, as well as access to the organization’s education programs. Depending upon the skills of the successful candidate, there may be the opportunity to supplement income with custom printing and instruction.
