About Digital Media @ York

Offered collaboratively by the Department of Computational Arts in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University’s Digital Media programs are innovative and interdisciplinary -- exploring the potentials of new and emerging technologies, the convergence of art and science, and the opportunities and impacts of the digital in a global context. Digital media students hone their creative, technical and analytical skills using code and programming as tools for creative expression. They study hands-on digital art-making alongside courses in math, computer science, and science and technology studies. Through studio and lab work, complemented by studies in analytic and critical methodologies, students learn how to use programming to create experiences that integrate digital media in myriad forms: physical computing, mobile apps, games, 3D environments, immersive environments, data visualization, sound and video processing, HCI, interactive theatre and dance performance, and more.

Digital Media offers a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts program with three streams: Digital Media Development, Digital Media Arts, and Digital Media Game Arts. As well, a minor in Computational Arts and Technology is open to students across the University. Our recently approved graduate program is accepting MA and MSc students for September 2018 and PhD students for September 2019.
