PARTICIPATE IN FOUR LANDS OF MISSISSAUGA!
Drop-in Workshops and Evolving Gallery Presented at the Art Gallery of Mississauga

FOUR LANDS is open for participation from February 22 - April 15, 2018

A travelling arts project created by Jumblies Theatre, Four Lands invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore and express the places they live: what they like, want to change, remember from different places and times, wish for and imagine. Together artists and community members build and animate four imaginary landscapes: Goodland, Badland, Lostland and Dreamland, through drawings, words, miniature models, music, conversation and gentle performance.

Four Lands takes the form of an evolving gallery, with ongoing drop-ins, workshops, a project launch and closing presentation and celebration.

This project is supported by the Hazel McCallion Fund at the Community Foundation of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Jumblies makes art in everyday and unexpected places, with, for and about the people and stories found there. Our art uncovers the extraordinary in the everyday, and our community is inclusive and based on people doing something together. We say, everyone is welcome, and grapple with the implications – aesthetic and social – of meaning it. Jumblies undertakes neighbourhood residencies, creates and presents new interdisciplinary art works, provides mentor artists, projects and organizations, collaborates with partners all around Toronto, Ontario and Canada, sparks lasting community-based Offshoots and strives to integrate community-engaged arts into our cultural mainstream.

Major projects and productions to date include Once A Shoreline in Davenport West (2004); Bridge of One Hair in Central Etobicoke (2007); Oy Di Velt Vet Vern Yinger at Camp Naivelt, Brampton and the Mayworks Festival in 2009, a Scarborough telling of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, Like An Old Tale (2011); the cross-country Train of Thought tour (2015); the Touching Ground Festival (2016); and Talking Treaties, led by Jumblies’ Associate Artistic Director, Ange Loft. Since 2014, Jumblies has been operating from The Ground Floor, in the midst of Toronto’s newly developing CityPlace.

The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a public, not-for-profit, contemporary art gallery located in the Mississauga Civic Centre, right on Celebration Square and across from Square One Shopping Centre. The AGM is generously supported by the City of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, private citizens and its members.

First. New. Next. The AGM provides platforms for exhibitions, collections and experimentation in contemporary culture with a recent focus on artists and cultural producers from Indigenous, newcomer and youth communities. Through a broad range of educational programs, artist projects and other forms of critical dialogue, the AGM seeks to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries, foster community, and provide spaces where alternative modes of thought are supported and activated in tangible ways.
