There are 3 stages to the proposal process (outlined below).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Daniels is working in partnership with Toronto Community Housing to redevelop Regent Park – Canada’s largest social housing community -- into a vibrant, mixed-use community of rental and market housing, commercial and community uses.

The proposed art installation project includes a digitally-rendered mural to be applied to construction hoarding in Regent Park. The hoarding, surrounding DuEast Condominiums, is located east of the intersection at Dundas Street East and Sumach Street. The proposed mural will face Dundas Street East on the north side. One artist (or artist team) will be chosen for the project.

The mural will contain breaks to include promotional information about the associated project, the exact ratio of artwork to promotional materials is still to be determined. The artwork portion of the hoarding will be approximately 180m (W) x 2.4m (H). The mural can be repeated to fill the entire space.

The desired aesthetic for the mural includes a digitally-rendered, artistic interpretation of the award-winning Living Laneway that will be north of the building, using colours and styles that complement the marketing materials for DuEast Condominiums, a link to the marketing materials can be found here: http://danielsdueast.com/.

The Living Laneway is a landscaped laneway that will be dotted with trees, benches, bike parking, and bistro string lighting crisscrossing the laneway. It will also be home to eclectic, two-storey live-work units for artists and a shared bike repair area for DuEast residents. This outdoor urban space is expected to be animated by pedestrians in a variety of ways. Renderings of the space are above.
