Tania Bruguera is a renowned Cuban installation and performance artist whose work exposes the social effects of power. In her talk, Bruguera will discuss the concept of Arte Útil, as means of harnessing art’s potential to shift perspectives and initiate social, political, and cultural change.

OCAD University’s 9th Nomadic Resident, Tania Bruguera will be at OCAD U engaging with students and faculty from Nov. 3-10, 2017.

About Nomadic Residents – International Residencies at OCAD University The Nomadic Residents program was launched with the generous support of Partners in Art in 2006. Residents include Rirkrit Tiravanija (2006) Ann Hamilton (2007), ORLAN (2008), Hal Foster (2009), Adel Abdessemed (2010), Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh (2012), Candice Breitz (2013), Pedro Reyes (2014), and Ryan Gander (2016).

Nomadic Residents aims to inspire and influence the OCAD University community and the public by featuring artists and thinkers from around the world whose work questions issues such as travel, mobility, displacement, dislocation, and homelessness, as well as the speed or instability of modern life. In bringing these innovative and diverse individuals to take up temporary residence at OCAD U, Nomadic Residents joins here to there, the local to the global and the provisional and the permanent.

Nomadic Residents continues with the generous support of the Jack Weinbaum Family Foundation
