LAND ON FIRE
Mary Lynne Atkinson

Urban Gallery
November 2 - 25, 2017
Reception: November 4, 2017, 2 -5 pm

Atkinson's latest body of work is an exploration of time and space rooted in the tangibility of the physical world that challenges our human relationship with the earth. Land on Fire was inspired by waves as patterns in time and space. In the immensity and silence of vast spaces, Atkinson draws the connections between the tangible and intangible with colour and gesture. Each painting holds its own silence bringing a sense of time evolving and space expanding.

Throughout her art practice, Atkinson has been drawn to vast, austere landscapes including the Arctic and the Sahara. The geo-psychological interaction in different landscapes revealed insights into the fragile spaces we briefly inhabit. Land on Fire is another series of paintings that continues the mediation on our place in the universe.
