Ryerson University, School of Image Arts, Lucy Molnar Wing Lecture Series presents:

AWARD WINNING FILMMAKER KELLY REICHARDT
PUBLIC LECTURE, November 2, 7pm - FREE
Eaton Lecture Theatre – RCC 204, Rogers Communication Centre
Ryerson University, 80 Gould St., Toronto

The Lucy Molnar Wing Lecture Series was created in honour of the late Lucy Molnar Wing, a passionate proponent of film and photography in our community. Supported by friends and family, the series will host an annual lecture by an inspiring filmmaker or photographer. The School of Image Arts is pleased to announce that the inaugural lecture will be given by filmmaker Kelly Reichardt.

Acclaimed filmmaker Kelly Reichardt completed her BFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Reichardt’s first feature, River of Grass (1994), a sun-drenched noir that was shot in her home town of Dade County, was cited as one of the best films of 1995 by the Boston Globe, Village Voice, Film Comment, the New York Daily News, Paper Magazine, and the San Francisco Guardian. Her film Old Joy (2006) premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was the first American film to win the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Other films in her filmography include: Wendy and Lucy (2008), Meek’s Cutoff (2010), and Night Moves (2013). Reichardt’s most recent film Certain Women (2016) premiered at the 2016 New York Film Festival and has been described as “an unassuming masterpiece” by The Guardian. Her work has been the subject of retrospectives at the Anthology Film Archives, Pacific Film Archive, Museum of the Moving Image, Walker Art Center, the American Cinematheque Los Angeles, and most recently, the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2017). Reichardt has been Artist-in-Residence, Film and Electronic Arts at Bard College since 2006.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
