Quest Art Call for 2019 Exhibition Proposals

Deadline: Wednesday, November 1, 2017, 5 pm

Quest Art is located in Midland, Ontario, on Southern Georgian Bay. Quest Art’s Upper Gallery exhibitions showcase individual artists, collectives and curated exhibitions that demonstrate excellence and innovation in contemporary art practices that critically address current issues within the field of art, humanities or science relevant to our demographic. As part of our mandate, Quest Art celebrates diversity and encourages the presentation and promotion of art practices by all artists from across Canada. Each year the Curator and Exhibition Committee work to schedule four professional exhibitions, which pay Carfac fees to selected artists. Quest Art’s Upper Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Midland Cultural Centre and is approximately 30’x40’ in area. The Upper Gallery has 12’ high ceilings, many access points to electricity, 2 points of entry, secured access, concrete floors, ceiling suspension capabilities & natural light.

Quest Art acknowledges Midland as the ancestral home to the Ouendat and geographical proximity to Beausoleil First Nations on Christian Island.

To download this information visit our Upper Gallery Submission Guidelines.

Please submit the following by mail or by email:

  1. 10-20 images representing a recent body of work or a specific project. Image files should be no more than 1024 pixels wide and formatted for PC. Time-based work should be submitted via a link or in DVD format. Please do not send original work and do not use CD sticker labels.
  2. An image list indicating title, year, medium and dimensions.
  3. An artist's statement or other written description.
  4. A physical description of the proposed exhibition, including the number of works, the space required, equipment needed and/or provided, and any unusual installation requirements.
  5. A curriculum vitae, resume or biography of the artist(s). And any other supporting material you would like to include (web links, reviews, catalogues, etc.)
  6. A self-addressed envelope (SASE) with sufficient return postage. Without an SASE we will not return submission packages and will dispose of submission materials appropriately.

*Please note: Quest Art handles all material with care; however we cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of materials. Please allow 2 to 4 months to receive a response.

Exhibitions will be chosen based on:
Artistic Merit: Exhibition effectively offers a dialogue that will work to educate the public in areas of contemporary art practice or current social issues.
Audience Relevance: Proposal clearly presents issues or artists relevant to Simcoe County.
Presentation: Artist clearly communicates their ideas through visual and written support materials.
Cross-Programming: Project presents excellent opportunities for cross programming through Quest's Adult and Young Artist programs and community gallery.
