Quest Art’s 13th Annual Juried Art Show

Quest Art would like to invite artists to digitally submit to our annual open-theme art competition of two and three-dimensional works of art from across Canada. This art competition accepts all media including: painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles, sculpture and forms of digital media. Juried by Ninette Gyorody, Frances Thomas and Dr. Michael Farnan, three juror’s prizes of $200 and a People’s Choice Award of $100 will be awarded. (See juror’s profiles below)

Deadline for entry: Monday, July 24, 2017 (5pm)
Competition Notification: on or before Friday, July 28th
Accepted Works Drop-off: August 21, 2017, 10 am - 5 pm
Exhibition Dates: August 25 – October 21, 2017
Opening and Juror’s Awards Presentation: Friday, August 25, 7- 9 pm
People’s Choice Award Announcement: Monday, October 23, 2017
Pick-up Date: Monday, October 23, 2017, 10 am - 5 pm

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Each submission fee entitles an artist the opportunity to submit two original works created in the last two years for jurying.
Digital Entries: Attention Juried Art Show
Mail entries to: Attention: Jill Price, Quest Art Juried Art Show, 333 King Street, Midland, ON, L4R 3M7
Entry fee: $30 Members, $45 Non Members (non-refundable) Payment, in the form of cash, cheque, money order payable to Quest Art Gallery, or a PayPal transaction online must accompany entries. Entries with post-dated cheques will not be accepted.

Labelling of submissions: Save files as: entry1,yourlastname,title,date,medium,size.
Presentation: All works accepted to the show must be ready for display. Work must be dry and ready to be hung or mounted. Quest Art Gallery reserves the right to reject unacceptable framing, works not ready to hang or works which are misrepresented on the CD/DVD or digital submission.

Marketing: Images of accepted submissions may be used in print or electronic media by Quest Art for the current year and within future promotions.
Results Announcement: For results please include your email address. Results will be emailed no later than Friday, July 28th, 2017

Shipping: Works will be accepted if they are mailed or shipped, but costs incurred are the artist’s responsibility.
Insurance: Shipping insurance is the responsibility of the entrant.

Participation: No entry may be withdrawn once it has been accepted. If works are for sale, Quest Art will receive a 30% members or %40 non-members commission on sales.

Thank you to our esteemed jurors:

Michael Farnan is a multidisciplinary artist currently living in Victoria Harbour, Ontario. He has exhibited nationally since 2000, has taught at the university level since 2009, and is a published author of critical theory and review. Recently Farnan completed a SSHRC funded, studio-based PhD candidate in Art and Visual Culture at Western University in London, Ontario and continues to teach as a sessional instructor while working as the interim curator at Quest Art in Midland, Ontario.

Ninette Gyorody is the Executive Director of the Orillia Museum of Art & History, a dynamic cultural, arts, and heritage centre in downtown Orillia. She has worked in museums and galleries for over 15 years, developing her programming, community engagement and curatorial practices. In that same period, she has taught in post-secondary institutions, including UWO, University of Guelph, Fanshawe College, Lakehead University, and Georgian College. Ninette received her BFA in Theatre, specializing in costume design and her MA in Art History from York University.

Frances Thomas was born in Parry Sound, ON and is a Barrie-based artist. She received both her BFA and MFA from York University. Thomas has participated in artist residencies in Canada and the US, and in 2016 completed a three-month self-directed residency in Berlin. Thomas was coordinator in the Education Department of the MacLaren Art Centre for five years, was part time faculty at Georgian College, and currently sits on the Fine Arts Advisory Committee at Georgian College. She has been a juror for the Ontario Arts Council and is currently an art consultant and Curator/Coordinator of Art@RVH, the program overseeing the acquisition, display and care of the permanent art collection at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.

She is represented by Peter Robertson Gallery in Edmonton and SB Contemporary in Windsor. She has exhibited in Edmonton, Barrie, Windsor, Toronto and New York and her work is in the permanent collections of the MacLaren Art Centre and BMO.
