Opening reception and catalogue launch - Thursday September 19th - 5pm to 8pm

Exhibition from September 18th to October 12th 2013

Galerie BAC is proud to present the first Montreal solo exhibition by painter Jordan Broadworth. This exhibition entitled Jordan Broadworth - Paintings will be on from September 18th to October 12th 2013. The opening reception will be held Thursday September 19th from 5pm to 8pm with the artist in attendance. An exhibition catalogue with essays by James D. Campbell (Montreal) and Jason Stopa (New York) will be published on this occasion.

In this recent body of work Broadworth continues to question painting's role in an increasing digital world. His paintings are a synthesis of the immediate and the mediated. They function in liminal space between the experience of seeing work in the flesh and viewing paintings on-line. His use of light is screen-like; the paintings appear backlit. The depth and physicality in the work is a seamless blend of fact and fiction. Additionally, the relationship between figure and ground break down in these paintings. Not simply a reversal, figure and ground trade back and forth and folds in and out.

About the artists:

Jordan Broadworth was born in Esquesing, Ontario, Canada. Broadworth studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA 1992) prior to graduating from the University of Guelph's Master of Fine Art Program in 1997. Broadworth has exhibited widely in public and private galleries over the past twenty years. His work is represented in public collections across Canada and internationally in private collections. In addition to painting Broadworth is an occasional curator and writer. He lives with his family in New York City.
