THE DEATH OF THE OLD GODS, REDUX
August 30 – September 13, 2012
Opening Reception: Thursday September 6, 5:30pm – 10:00pm
Featuring: Andrea Silk

Andrea Silk's exhibition seeks to reclaim some of the essential ideas that old myths represented by using them as a lens through which to question the boundaries between humanity, technology and nature within contemporary Western society. The work's process involves a layering of seductively reflective recycled packaging; like foils, pop tabs, snake shedding and acrylic paint, that are in themselves inextricably implicated in consumption based strategies which harm the populations of both the human and non-human environments that they interrupt. Like the rhizomatic constructions of eco-systems, societies, and history the transient state of the foils in my work reflects the idea that it is not the unchanging which signifies eternal beauty but the ever changing, even the gods must die and be reborn for our era.

A SERIES OF LADIES ART SHOW
September 15, 2012
Gallery Hours: Saturday September 15, 3:00pm – 11:00pm (including a reception)
Opening Reception: Thursday June 7, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Featuring: Désiré Betty

Artist Désiré Betty has long explored the spiritual serenity that manifests itself through her artistic expression she calls perpetual freedom art. The characters she paints are mostly women or seemingly androgynous figures along with complimentary abstract pieces that represent their creative realms. Her characters represent a portrayal of revitalized appreciation for inner strength and conviction by way of shedding the facade that several inherently assume in order to meet the societal status quo.

A L O N E together
October 19 – 25, 2012
Gallery Hours: 11:00am – 6:00pm everyday
Reception: Friday October 19, 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Featuring: Susan Avishai, Laura Culic, Brian Harvey, Mark Kellett, Jennifer Lawton, Gordon Leverton, Laurie Skantzos and Janice Tayler

Although the artists work in a variety of styles and media, they share a powerful collective interest in forging new and independent ways to direct their visions.

The show title signifies the unifying sense of professionalism shared by these eight mid-career artists who act as sounding-boards, critics and support for each other in what can be a very solitary occupation.

As well as a common philosophy, the group members have recognized they all share a mutually high level of professional achievement and success. "A L O N E together" is a celebration of these unique visions and accomplishments.

THIS CITY: A PHOTOGRAPHY AND MIXED-MEDIA EXHIBIT
November 3, 2012
Opening Reception: Saturday November 3, 6:30pm – 11:00pm
Featuring: Ana Mendoza and Aristotle Domingo

Two local Toronto talents, Ana Mendoza (Photographer) and Aristotle Domingo (Artist), have joined to create an exhibit to showcase Toronto in "This City: A Photography & Mixed Media Exhibit". This event will showcase Toronto as they see it from their own respective lenses – Photography and Paintings. "Our goal is to share how we see Toronto in our own creative interpretation. Our hope is that people will connect with our work the way we do with this city".

As seasoned artists, "This City" will mark Aristotle's return to exhibiting his work after a long hiatus, and Ana's step forward from traditional group exhibits.

1 & 1
November 7 – 13, 2012
Gallery Hours: 12:00pm – 7:00pm everyday
Reception: Thursday November 8, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Featuring: Lilian Lampert & Maya Foltyn

Lilian Lampert:

Lilian creates in her imaginary a very personal world, based on observation of reality as much as in her dreams and emotions. Whether working in acrylic, watercolour, pastel or graphite, she is searching for the best form for her intended definition.

Maya Foltyn:

Maya's passions are painting and drawing and a combination of both. The dominant characteristic of her work is the line. While making the lines more abstract, she applies layers of paint transparencies, combining soft matt surfaces with a variety of light-reflecting paints and textures. Her sources of inspiration are the cultural richness of Europe, the beauty of New Zealand, her second homeland, and the majestic scale of Canada.

The ancient Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world to fall on December 21st of this year, shortly after this exhibit. This series of paintings, produced in the past two years, explore this thematically charged concept through a deep reflection about the origins of life and the interrelations of our environment from the beginning of time to the hereafter.
