The Strutt Wearable Art Weekend

Call for Submissions for the 13th STRUTT Runway Show
Deadline: Saturday 22 September 2012 at 5pm

The Niagara Artists Centre seeks creations that transform the human body through the imagination. STRUTT is NOT a fashion show. It is a WEARABLE ART SHOW. The selection committee will not consider 'fashion forward' clothing. They are seeking wearable art that can be performed on the runway, not modeled. They are looking for pieces that astound audiences and push boundaries. STRUTT is a challenge to create evocative, fantastic, and one-of-a-kind works of art for the human body.

FIBRE ART WEEK AT NAC | 17-23 September 2012
In celebration of the 13th Annual STRUTT Wearable Art Weekend NAC is hosting Fibre Art Week – seven days of workshops instructed by local fibre artists and featuring guest instructor Lexi Boeger from CAMP Pluckyfluff. The week will culminate in a Fibre Art Exhibit and Cloth(es) Swap on Sunday 23 September.

Monday 17 September 6:00pm-10:00pm
Instructor: Lisa Renee Mckenzie
Wish you could spin your own yarn? Its easier then you think. Before you take on the big wheel, learn how to use a handmade drop spindle and spin your own yarn. You get to take it all home with you at the end of the night. This is the perfect introductory class to spinning!

Tuesday 18 September 6:00pm-10:00pm
Instructor: Cassie Leigh Clancy
Tired of just knitting the scarf that goes on and on forever? I will be teaching the basics of knitting with a unique end result. After a brief tutorial on the how-to's of casting on, casting off, knitting, purling, increasing and decreasing, I will be sharing a pattern for knitted leaves. Bring your own needles and yarn if you desire, but both will be supplied for use in the workshop.

Wednesday 19 September 6:00pm-10:00pm
Instructor: Tammy Lepp
This workshop will teach you the basics skills for creating your own felted wool textiles via wet, nuno and needle felting. At the end of the workshop you will leave with a completed wet felted piece and the know how to make a variety of things including scarves and handbags. Please bring an empty bottle and a towel.

Thursday 20 September 6:00pm-10:00pm
Instructor: Debbie Arruda
This workshop will teach you the basics you need to get started on your own patchwork and quilting projects. We'll work on completing some small hand stitched samples and discuss machine quilting techniques. A variety of samples and project books will be shared for ideas and inspiration.

Saturday 22 September -Sunday 23 September 11am- 4pm
Instructor: Lexi Boeger
These Pluckyfluff workshops are two full days of class that cover a broad range of spinning techniques from Lexi's books Handspun Revolution, Intertwined and HandSpun. But these techniques are just a place to start, the point of this class is to investigate and develop your own creative ideas. There will be ample opportunity to try new things one-on-one, or get the whole class involved! The goal of the class is to develop an artistic awareness within students so that they can see fiber and yarn as a medium for creative expression. Bring an open mind and you're sure to leave with a smile (oh, and...LOTS of cool yarn!)

About the Instructor:

Pluckyfluff creator Lexi Boeger has forged a new genre in the craft of handspinning. With the publication of Handspun Revolution (self-published) in 2003, and Intertwined (Quarry, 2007)) a small cult interest has literally become the revolution it was rumored to be. Lexi Boeger has been a working artist, writer, and designer for twenty years and brings the perspectives and knowledge gained in these fields to the craft of spinning. She has brought creative spinning to the attention of the international art world through art yarn exhibitions and workshops, and has helped to permanently blur the line between art and craft. Boeger currently produces new works from her studio in California.

Registration for Camp Pluckyfluff will close 25 Aug 2012. All Fibre Week Events will be held at NAC, Spaces fill up quickly, Contact NAC to Register.
