2) Synthecycletron by Barry Prophet Interactive installation now open 24/7 on Toronto Island

Visitors that encounter the Synthecycletron, a favourite amongst Toronto cyclists, generate power by pedalling on stationary bicycles which in turn activate synthesizers and generate sounds connected to their movements.

The Sound Travels Intensive is an opportunity for artists, composers and musicians from across Canada and around the world to create and present new work in Toronto, exchange ideas with others, and hone their skills in diverse aspects of sound, media and electroacoustic practice. Five intense days of workshop sessions, private instruction and creative activity culminate in a public concert presentation at Toronto's Artscape Wychwood Barns. This year's Intensive features masterclasses by renowned acousmatic composer Trevor Wishart, alongside core workshops in audio production (Darren Copeland), interactive audio (David Ogborn), DIY electronics using Arduino with Ian Jarvis, Electroacoustic ear-training with Eldad Tsabary plus guest lecture by Emilie LeBel. Participants must apply by Friday July 15 at 12 noon Toronto time to be eligible for a limited number of scholarship and billeting possibilities.

4) 6th annual Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium (TES)

     August 15-18, 2012

The Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium, presented by New Adventures in Sound Art and the Canadian Electroacoustic Community, includes a selection of refereed papers and presentations and concerts as well as a keynote lecture by Trevor Wishart. World Listening Day – Toronto/Belfast

During this World Listening Day celebration, audience will experience a trans-local SOUNDwalk. While being led on a SOUNDwalk locally by NAISA Artistic Director Darren Copeland, they will be provided with sounds from a SOUNDwalk in Belfast led by Rui Chaves happening simultaneously: thus juxtaposing two sound locales to produce an integrated soundscape experience.

Soundsinger Paul Dutton (CCMC member and former Four Horseman member) merges the world of sound poetry and sound art in this solo performance in the intimate listening environs of the NAISA Space. Also included will be an exhibit of Paul Dutton's collection of poetry and other works.

6) Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art

     August 4 - September 1, 2012

The 14th annual Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art will include interactive installations, performances, a workshop intensive, and the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium. Featured artists include Trevor Wishart, Emilie LeBel, Terri Hron, Paul Dutton, Ryo Ikeshiro and Michael Trommer.

Ghostwood a/v is an audio-visual installation which investigates the psychogeography of Ontario's northern wilderness. It is primarily focused on the use of infrasound, provided by specially-constructed tactile transducers, and is supported with a single-channel video component.

PulseCubes is an interactive sound installation. Visitors are invited to become part of an implicit feedback loop whose other components include a set of small cubes on a flat surface, computer vision and digital signal processing.
