REFLECTIONS

Danielle Hession

June 5 - June 26

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 9, 1 - 3pm

This collection of work by Danielle Hession is inspired by the sensation of deja-vu and the conscious or subconscious self-reflection that can be triggered by viewing nostalgic images. She reveres old photographs, letters, documents and treasured objects as storehouses of information or keys to lost memories. This series of work also explores the practical definition of reflection, playing with mirror images, shadows and refracting light. Danielle invites viewers to ponder their own sense of nostalgia and possibly reminisce about their own memories and personal history.

Danielle Hession

Danielle Hession was born in Canada and earned a design degree in graphic design at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto where she now resides. A Semester at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, and a summer in New York interning at Vogue helped shape Danielle's aesthetic and wish to pursue a creative career.

Danielle's exploration in mixed media and collage started at a young age with a set of rubber stamps that were given to her by her mother. She kept art journals avidly since she was seven years old and started to create assemblages with found objects as she got older. The juxtaposition of found images and textural elements still plays an integral role in her art.

Danielle spent her last year in design school delving into a thesis that explored how we preserve memories and share life stories. This project morphed into her current carreer of custom art.

She takes great satisfaction in recycling discarded items and giving them a new life while still imparting a sense of mystery and nostalgia.
