DUE NORTH
May 30 – June 3, 2012

Gallery Hours: 11:00am – 6:00pm
Opening Reception: Friday June 1, 7:00pm – 9:30pm, with welcome remarks by CBC Radio's Shelagh Rogers
Featuring: Jeff Molloy

Jeff Molloy is fascinated with Canadian history and culture. Molloy's life-sized encaustic blanket paintings signify more than a warm covering. These blankets are the woolly essence of Canada, and hint of wood smoke and weary trappers, of exploration and exploitation, canoes and commerce, the history of a people and the making of a nation.

Molloy's latest show, Due North, has its roots in such Canadian lore. Old canoe paddles, hockey sweaters, mixed media cabinets that portray Canadian legends, historical and Canadian flags hanging from old farm fragments, and the blankets tell Canada's rugged northern story in compelling colour and dimensions.

ICE
June 23 – 24, 2012
Private viewing (by appointment only): Friday June 22, 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Gallery Hours: Saturday – Sunday, 11:00am – 5:00pm
Reception: (by invite only): Saturday June 23, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Featuring: Hishani De Silva

Treat yourself to a night of vibrant sensual experiences at the exhibition: ICE, where Toronto artist Hishani De Silva reveals her latest collection of paintings. The ICE collection is done with a technique of painting with ice, which emphasizes on the process where water changes from solid into liquid then vapour. This collection starts off abstract, then slowly takes on a figurative direction. The show will give the viewer a chance to see how the technique starts, and to see how it developed over time. The exhibition will be divided in two parts: The ICE collection, plus selected pieces from the past.

QUIET NORTH
July 4 – 15, 2012

Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00am – 8:00pm, Sundays 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Opening Reception: Saturday July 7, 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Featuring: Dominique Hui

Dominique Hui's first solo show Quiet North presents a series of playful and graphical portraits and urban landscapes painted on wood panels and paper. Quiet North reveals a void space and presence of human figures in conventional landscape paintings. In these paintings, the subjects are silent and static reflections, frozen in a timeless zone. Hui's works invite a critical conversation that examines dynamic cultural entanglement and questions the contradiction of the uneven relationships between invisible subjects in the context of a Canadian history.

THE DEATH OF THE OLD GODS, REDUX

Garbage and allegorical narrative as contemporary exploration
August 30 – September 13, 2012

Opening Reception: Thursday September 6, 5:30pm – 10:00pm
Featuring: Andrea Silk

Andrea Silk's exhibition seeks to reclaim some of the essential ideas that old myths represented by using them as a lens through which to question the boundaries between humanity, technology and nature within contemporary Western society. The work's process involves a layering of seductively reflective recycled packaging; like foils, pop tabs, snake shedding and acrylic paint, that are in themselves inextricably implicated in consumption based strategies which harm the populations of both the human and non-human environments that they interrupt. Like the rhizomatic constructions of eco-systems, societies, and history the transient state of the foils in my work reflects the idea that it is not the unchanging which signifies eternal beauty but the ever changing, even the gods must die and be reborn for our era.
