The Hues of Abstraction: The First Edition
Feb. 25 – March 18, 2012
Opening Reception: Saturday, Feb. 25, 6 – 9 p.m.
The first in a series of exhibition of abstract art will feature Ivan Ortiz along with Mario Angel and Hawa Kaba.
Ortiz creates moody, mixed media abstract pieces that lure the viewer. Heavily influenced by his Argentinean roots in his color compositions, there is a certain romance and depth that hangs on his dark, soothing canvases. He creates texture with the heavy use of acrylic and various media while a sudden spark of colour focuses the eye.
Mario Angel tires to express the flow of energy through his acrylic abstract paintings. His use of colour combined with the process of applying his paint provides an interpretation the flow of energy.
Hawa Kaba's mixed media paintings are textured memories, visual responses to a range of her personal experiences in Africa. Her paintings evoke a gracefulness both in the landscape and the culture through the abstract use of colour, form and collaged materials.
