Call for Submissions
We are accepting proposals from artists for the fourth manifestation of Out of Site: Contemporary Art Works on Queen Street West, an exhibition curated by Earl Miller and presented by the Queen Street West Business Improvement Area. We are seeking installations, performance, dance, theatre, sound, interactive, and participatory works that are in some way site-specific to the Queen Street West neighbourhood. Selected artists will receive a fee of $400 and a production budget of up to $1,000.
Out of Site has showcased important contemporary art on Nuit Blanche night since 2009, exhibiting the work of artists including Daniel Borins & Jennifer Marman, An Te Liu, Camille Turner, Blue Republic and Ulysses Castellanos, who have collectively received considerable media attention in the National Post, the Globe and Mail, and elsewhere. One of the pieces commissioned for the 2010 exhibition, An Te Liu's Ennui Blanc, is now in the AGO's permanent collection. Info on the 2010 exhibition may be found at http://queenstwestbia.ca/out-of-site/ and on the 2011 exhibition at http://queenstwestbia.ca/works-curated-by-earl-miller/
Please send submissions and queries via e-mail to to Earl Miller (firstname.lastname@example.org) by March 1. Include a concise one-page proposal, rough budget (optional), relevant images (maximum five) and a current CV. Proposals are screened for likelihood of successful execution and potential audience engagement but are ultimately chosen for artistic merit and responsiveness to site. Please note that only artists with successful proposals will be contacted.
