Call for Applications for The Professional Art Studio Certificate (PASC)

and Artist in Residence (AIR) Programs
at The Toronto School of Art.

Professional Art Studio Certificate

Guidance, interaction and inspiration.


  • Created in response to the need for a stronger support network for emerging artists just like you, formerly known as Independent Studio Program (ISP).
  • The eight-month program is intended for emerging artist and recent graduates of a visual arts program or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree.
  • The program focuses on the development of your artistic practice and the practical career skills required for either a professional career in the arts or entrance into a Master of Fine Arts.
  • The PASC program provides essential time, space, community and critical feedback to develop and present your work.
  • Work under the guidance and mentorship of an individual artist-advisor and the Program Coordinator.
  • You are provided with opportunities to exhibit your work at several public events that offer a venue to test your ideas while receiving feedback from other artists, faculty, curators, and the general public.
  • The program encourages the theoretical and critical study for your art practice.


Deliverables

  • 24-hour access to a semi-private studio together with other artists;
  • The opportunity to work uninterrupted in a downtown Toronto studio;
  • Access to an individual advisor;
  • Group critiques and other meetings with TSA faculty and guest artists;
  • Option to participate in multiple exhibitions;
  • Written critical feedback from individual advisors and program coordinator;
  • Access to visiting artist lectures and guest critiques;
  • Participation in one TSA course per term;
  • Access to digital lab and software;
  • Program certificate upon successful completion.


Fees

Tuition fee: $4,600 | International student fee: $6,300
*Students may be eligible for OSAP funding (Ontario Student Assistance Program). Other funding programs may apply. Students are encouraged to explore funding resources independently.

Application

  • Cover letter explaining your interest in either the PASC Program
  • Artist statement (maximum 250 words)
  • C.V.
  • Two reference letters
  • CD with 10 digital images (res. 72 dpi, max. of 1024 x 768 pixel)
  • Label each image with a number and a title (01InitialsTitle.jpg – 10InitialsTitle.jpg) including a separate corresponding image list
  • Video submissions are maximum of 10 minutes burnt to a DVD
  • School Transcripts
  • $50 non-refundable fee – Canadian funds only



Artist in Residence

Focus, interaction and inspiration.

  • The Toronto School of Art offers a 4, 8, 12 or 16 week spring and/or summer residency program.
  • Offered from May to August, the program is designed for practicing professional artists who have completed their formal training. (more established)
  • The AIR program promotes your creative investigation and the development of new work by interacting with other artists from the program, from the school, faculty, curators, visiting artists and the general public.
  • Additionally, the program supports and enhances your creativity by providing uninterrupted time for work, reflection, and collegial interaction in an urban setting.
  • Admissions to the residency are based on an application review by a TSA faculty committee.
  • Immerse yourself in a creative environment where you can focus on creating and working on your art practice.
