The City of Victoria invites artists to enter a three-stage, juried competition for public art which will acknowledge and celebrate the City of Victoria’s 150th Anniversary.  To obtain a copy of the Request for Expression of Interest document, visit the City’s website at www.victoria.ca/vendorregistration/currenttenders.asp     

Stage 1 submissions should be submitted either electronically to culture@victoria.ca or in a sealed envelope addressed to City of Victoria, Supply Management Services, No. 1 Centennial Square, Victoria BC V8W 1P6 no later than 4:00 p.m. Victoria Time, Tuesday, January 10, 2012.
 
Background
This is a request for Expressions of Interest for public artwork(s). The artwork(s) will be installed to honour the 150th Anniversary of the City of Victoria in 2012. Expressions of Interest for permanent works will be considered for installation within the City of Victoria. A range of media may be considered including, but not limited to, two-dimensional images, relief and sculptural forms, urban infrastructure. Commissions are for new works.
 
Artists Eligible to Enter
This competition is open to artists who are residents of Canada.
 
Budget
The budget for the completed work(s) is up to $100,000 inclusive of all costs of design, supplies, insurance, engineering, fabrication, delivery, installation, administration, travel, contingency and applicable taxes and fees.
 
Type of Artwork
A range of media may be considered including, but not limited to, two-dimensional images, relief and sculptural forms, urban infrastructure. Sustainable design, procurement, and fabrication practices are encouraged.
 
Theme
The artwork(s) should celebrate the City of Victoria’s unique and remarkable environment, history and heritage. The artwork(s) may resonate with and mark time.  Artwork(s) may identify unique geographic and civic spaces or characters and communities that have contributed to Victoria’s evolution.  Artwork(s) may identify unique aspects of the city as it is today, reflect on the past as it influences the present, or encourages an idea of the City as it may be.
