The photographic works of Osheen Harruthoonyan crystallize midway between the calculable and the spontaneous. The imagery in Vrais Semblants acts like fragments of a story awaiting interpretation. Offered glimpses of narrative, we aren't necessarily served reality, but given choices as to where our imaginations can take us.
Bringing forward the relationships between memory, history and identity, a narrative is constructed through representational and abstract imagery.
By printing these fragile and temporary subjects on large-scale fiber paper and toning them in a variety of chemistry they become symbols of sentimentality while maintaining strong contemporary sensibilities.
