The Expedition Series 

Subtle Technologies presents an all new workshop series that brings artists directly into science labs.

 

The Art and Science of Brain Imaging
In partnership with the Centre for Brain and Mind, University of Western Ontario
, London
9am - 6pm, Saturday, October 1
Registration: $150 ($100 for student/unwaged)
Includes: instruction, class use of a 3-Tesla fMRI machine, breakfast, lunch and snacks
Limited travel subsidies are available

Highlights:
- Run some experiments in an fMRI imaging lab

- Interact with neuroscientists
- Learn the basics of modern neuroscience to use in your artistic practice
- Topics will include: introduction to neuroscience and neuroimaging techniques (particularly fMRI), understanding fMRI images, philosophical and ethical issues related to brain imaging, and extreme proposed uses such as "mind reading"

Conceptual Gems of Theoretical Physics
In partnership with Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Waterloo

9am - 8pm, Friday, October 14
Registration: $100 ($70 for student/unwaged)
Includes: instruction, breakfast, lunch and snacks, wine & cheese with Perimeter Institute residents
Limited travel subsidies are available

Highlights:
- Spend a day at the renowned Perimeter Institute

 - Experience concrete, accessible introductions to intriguing concepts fundamental to modern theoretical physics through simulations, demonstrations, hands-on activities and small-group conversations
- Interact with practicing physicists interested in future collaborative projects

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis, however we will be lightly selecting participants in order to have a diversity of artistic genres and geographical locations represented.
