The Queen West Art Crawl (QWAC) is proud to present SYNTHESIS, our second annual gala fundraising event, on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement in Parkdale. SYNTHESIS embodies the spirit of the Queen West Art Crawl by celebrating collaboration, creativity, and diversity while offering a rare opportunity to meet some of Toronto's most innovative creators from all artistic disciplines.

SYNTHESIS pairs 10 visual artists with 10 performing artists who represent a diverse cross-section of the arts: music, theatre, comedy, sculpture, video, painting, spoken word, film and dance. We split the artists into two 'waves' of creativity: ten artists create original works based on a pre-assigned theme, and then, following an intense two week creation period, these pieces are submitted to 'Wave Two' artists who respond with their own original works.

The ten resulting creative collaborations will be exhibited and performed throughout the beautiful Pia Bouman School space, from a tiny prop room to a full-size theatre. The installations and performances will be accompanied by a silent auction, TAG cocktails, appetizers provided by Belly Catering and designer desserts from Yummy Stuff.

The 2011 gala will feature contemporary dance, a radio play, a 10-minute musical, textiles, live painting and film. New participating artists this year include:

• Toronto novelist & poet Jennifer LoveGrove
• Textile artist and costume designer Larisa Kallaur-Telford
• Andil Gosine, Cultural Studies professor at York University and multimedia artist
• Decoder Ring Theatre, a theatre and audio production company and award-winning podcast

Returning artists from last year's sold-out event include:

• Deadpan Powerpoint, winners of the 2010 Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival's EYE WEEKLY Audience Choice Award
• Illustrator Brett Lamb, whose piece for the 2010 gala (a video game view of Queen West) was featured in Toronto Life, the National Post, Eye Weekly, and Torontoist.
