CALL 4 Proposals: The Dressing Room Project

Multi-Arts Festival - Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week April 2011

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Artists are invited to create site-specific projects in one of 7 individual dressing rooms including: installation, performance or multi-disciplinary work as part of the exhibition during the multi-arts festival Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week in April of 2011

PROJECT DETAILS:

• An artist fee of $300 will be paid to artists per project
• 7 dressing rooms located in Toronto's film studios "Studio City" in Liberty Village, the home of the next edition of Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week aka FAT.
• Rooms sizes: approx 10x10 feet. Each contains a mirror and vanity lights.
• All materials, equipment and tech requirements to be provided by the artist.
• Rooms can be painted, manipulated and altered to a reasonable extent.
• Site-specific works can include installation, video, multi-media, performance or design.
• Submitted proposals should reflect on the notion of clothing, the body or fashion and the 2011 theme "Fashion Schematics".

2011 THEME: "FASHION SCHEMATICS"

The |FAT| 2011 theme "Fashion Schematics" explores the messages, systems, schemes, symbols and concepts inherent in the notion of fashion, through photography, video, fashion design, performance, installation and music. The festival will look at the ways we create visual dialogues and make sense of the world through fashion and creative expression. "Fashion Schematics" will examine how we build the systems in which we function, the strategies we use in creating our identities and the messages we convey through codes, currencies and narratives.

SUBMIT:

• Cover letter with contact details including artist name, address, telephone, email address, website.
• Short description of proposed project - 250 words max
• 5 images of previous work (jpeg images on CD – 1MB maximum)
• Short Bio
• Drawings/ Sketches of proposed project
• $30 submission fee
