Call for Participants

Building Together (If I could do just one near perfect thing I’d be happy) is looking for participants to take part in an artist residency with Zach Springer, March 14-28, 2010.

Participants will learn how to build a project of their choice, and each participant’s materials will be funded (to a maximum of $120.00 per project).  The goal of Building Together is to not only build an object, but to also be able to share the new skills that you’ve learned with others.  It’s about choosing to learn something that you don’t know how to do, but would like to know how to do.  It’s also about building a community of people through a shared interest in learning and building things together.

Zach Springer is a currently working towards his Master’s degree in Fine Art at Portland State University. He has been offering his services to people for about four years now, through word of mouth and also through his website  He finds that people are much happier in their surroundings if they have taken the time to build it themselves, and he knows a lot of people just don't have the time or the skills to build much of anything so that is why he is offering his time and skills to you.

His skills include, but are not limited to
  • woodworking
  • carpentry
  • tile installation
  • brain storming
  • researching
  • hanging out
  • metal fabrication
  • adventuring
  • boat building
  • sewing

  • bicycle building

Submission Requirements:

A detailed description of the project you would like Zach to teach you (1-2 pgs).

A materials list and proposed budget.

A short bio about yourself including why you’d like to participate (Max. 500 words)

Details of your availability during March 14-28.  (Participants only need to be able to commit to the time it will take to build their project, not necessarily the whole two weeks)
