The Drake Photorama Fund
As part of Photorama 2018, Gallery TPW is happy to announce the inauguration of The Drake Photorama Fund in partnership with the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC). For this exciting new initiative, The Drake will be underwriting an acquisition fund, enabling the curators at RIC to purchase work from the Photorama exhibition for its world-class photography collection. The selected artworks will be announced at the Collectors’ Preview of Photorama on Thursday, November 22. All sales support both Gallery TPW’s mission and the participating artists.

Collectors’ Preview
An exclusive Collectors’ Preview will feature food, drinks, and the first opportunity to purchase artworks by exciting artists including Trisha Baga, Steven Beckly, Robert Burley, Edward Burtynsky, Patrick Cruz, Lee Henderson, Laurie Kang, Suzy Lake, Eileen Quinlan, Catherine Telford Keogh, Jessica Thalmann, and Shellie Zhang.

*The Collectors’ Preview offers guests the opportunity to view and purchase work from Photorama before it opens to the public. Access to the Collectors’ Preview is open to invited guests and TPW’s Circle of Supporters. To join our Circle of Supporters, please contact Kate Wivell at kate@gallerytpw.ca or call 416.645.1066.

About Gallery TPW
Gallery TPW is an innovative and exploratory artist-run centre based in Toronto. Through a diverse program of exhibitions, screenings, performances, new critical writing, and education events, TPW engages with the vital role that still and time-based images play in contemporary culture.

The Drake Photorama Fund Partners

The Drake is a creative incubator, comprised of a series of hotels and restaurants that connect the general public with artists working in all media from across town and around the world. Each location is an entry point for the culturally curious to make meaningful connections with art community, presenting an eclectic and constantly changing program of performance, visual art and live music. For more information, visit www.thedrake.ca

“When TPW first approached us for this partnership, we were struck by what an incredible opportunity it is for the private sector to join forces with artist run culture to ensure Toronto–based artists are included in a local museum collection. Through it, The Drake is thrilled to support the vibrant gallery community in our city and support artists by fostering a new generation of art collectors.”
~ Mia Nielsen, Director of Art + Culture, The Drake

The Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) exists for the research, teaching and exhibition of photography and related media. As an active partner within the academic fabric of Ryerson University, the cultural network of greater Toronto, and the national and international artistic community, the RIC develops rigorous yet inclusive programs for students, faculty, artists, researchers and curators, as well as the general public. The RIC boasts three interrelated areas of activity. An exhibition program that addresses topics of social, cultural, aesthetic and historical concern from a variety of contemporary perspectives. The RIC’s Peter Higdon Research Centre conducts and facilitates inquiry into primary resource materials and offers workshops, lectures, symposia and publication programs. Finally, the RIC maintains a collection of photography spanning the medium’s history, as well as several artist and journalism archives—including the renowned Black Star Collection of twentieth century photoreportage.
