The STEPS Initiative is an award winning charitable cultural organization that bridges culture, community and city-building by animating unlikely spaces with unlikely partners. We seek to inspire cities across Canada and around the world to create welcoming public spaces that reflect and celebrate local community through artistic excellence and have been responsible for some of Canada’s largest and most innovative public art initiatives. Our award-winning social enterprise, PATCH is a public arts agency that improves the urban experience for local residents and visitors alike by transforming vacant urban spaces into an ongoing curated exhibition.

We are currently seeking a Program Manager to join our dynamic team whose responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the Executive Director and Director of Community Programs to develop an annual program plan and budget, including community and strategic projects;
  • Identifying, developing and stewarding relationships with stakeholders (i.e. funders, clients, artists/arts organizations, program delivery partners) needed to successfully execute program plan and strategic organizational activities, including representing the organization at events or external meetings;
  • Developing and implementing outreach and communications strategies in support of program plan and organizational awareness building;
  • Managing the successful execution of public art and placemaking programming from conception to completion, including but not limited to: performing risk assessments (including ensuring compliance with legislated and organizational safety and other policies / protocols), sourcing materials, developing program materials, liaising with stakeholders, documenting programming, monitoring and evaluating programming, as well as reporting on completed programming);
  • Executing fundraising activities that support program or strategic projects, including fostering relationships with donors/grantors/sponsors; developing fundraising / fee-for-service proposals, as well as preparing grant proposals;
  • Recruiting, supervising and facilitating administrative tasks associated with program staff / contractors (including collaborating artists);
  • Actively participating in staff meetings and providing input towards the development of new policies to direct operational practice, as required;
  • Other activities that further the purposes outlined above


This is a one-year full-time contract position, with the possibility of renewal and salary commensurate with experience.
