PLEASURE DOME CALL FOR CURATORIAL PROPOSALS FOR SUMMER OR FALL 2019 SEASONS

Pleasure Dome is now accepting proposals from guest curators who are eligible applicants for the Ontario Arts Council granting stream Curatorial Projects: Indigenous and Culturally Diverse for projects that will take place during summer or fall 2019.

We are accepting proposals for programs of time-based work for exhibition in any of the following contexts: single-channel screenings, performances, installations, and/or other expanded cinema sites. For exhibition formats, we can accommodate 35mm, Regular / Super 8, 16mm, VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray, or QuickTime files not greater than HD (1920×1080). The proposed exhibition will take place in either summer or fall 2019.

Please note that this call is for curatorial projects only. Curators who are artists, emerging curators, women, persons with disabilities, and persons across the spectrum of sexual orientation or gender identity are all encouraged to apply.

The selected curator will consult with Pleasure Dome staff on the submission of an application for the Curatorial Project: Indigenous and Culturally Diverse grant stream. Pleasure Dome staff will bottom line the application submission/final report - with the guidance and approval from the guest curator - and provide support for the guest curator throughout the entire process.

If successful, this grant will fund the proposed project up to the following maximums: fees for the curator (maximum $10,000), mentor (maximum $2,000) and artists; publication expenses (maximum $5,000), and exhibition productions costs (maximum $10,000). The guest curator will have independent creative control over the final exhibition.

Proposals may also be considered for programming opportunities during our 2019 regular season. If you are an individual artist, please do not apply through this stream. Individual artists may submit their work here: https://filmfreeway.com/PleasureDome.

This is a paid opportunity. Applications are due by 5pm on August 17, 2018.

ABOUT PLEASURE DOME

Pleasure Dome is a year-round, artist-run exhibition group dedicated to the presentation and appreciation of experimental film and video. With a curatorial mandate to program time-based work from local, national and international artists, Pleasure Dome presents a variety of different genres, styles and traditions, from those of the historical avant-garde to contemporary post-modern video/film mixes, alongside other attempts to re-imagine the modernist experimental tradition.

In an effort to foster a diverse and inclusive screening environment which encourages attendance from as many sectors of the public as possible, Pleasure Dome exhibits innovative works in traditional and “expanded” presentations which include installation and other unconventional exhibition formats, all with a low admission cost. We often program short length and small format work while seeking out and presenting works by women, visible and invisible minorities, First Nations and Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons across the spectrum of sexual orientation or gender identity.

We would like to acknowledge funding support from the The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Toronto Arts Council. Pleasure Dome is made possible through the generous support of our funders, as well as our members, sponsors and community partners.
