Hamilton Arts Council Job Opportunity
Building Cultural Legacies: Research Assistant

Building Cultural Legacies is an initiative of the Hamilton Arts Council that aims to collect, preserve and broadly disseminate stories about the history of the visual arts in Hamilton through a collective memory approach.

The Hamilton Arts Council has received an 8-week Canada Summer Jobs grant for a Research Assistant. Reporting to the Project Manager, and working closely with the Archive Holders sub-committee, the research assistant will research and audit existing archival material about the visual arts in Hamilton in a range of media.

The ideal candidate is someone who demonstrates an understanding of the Hamilton visual arts community in addition to research and archival skills.

Requirements:
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs which requires that potential candidates are between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; were registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year; is a student in a secondary, post-secondary program and is legally entitled to work in Canada. The successful candidate must be willing to commit to 30 hours per week for the duration of the 8-week contract.

Qualifications:

  • Meets the required criteria for Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Currently undertaking an Art History, Museum Studies or Information Studies degree at the Undergraduate or Graduate level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
