Call for Nominations: City of Hamilton 2018 Arts Awards

Who Will YOU Nominate?

The City of Hamilton welcomes nominations for the 2018 Arts Awards program. Each year the City celebrates the outstanding achievements of its local artists with cash awards and civic recognition.

Nominations are encouraged from communities across Hamilton in 11 award categories: Arts Management, Fine Craft, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, Arts Education and Community Arts, Dance and Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Writing, Arts Innovation and Lifetime Achievement.

New for 2018!

Emerging artists (practicing professionally for five years or less) can be nominated for the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize, presented by the Shirley M. Elford Artist's Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation. The Prize is to be awarded in memory of the late Shirley Elford, a Hamilton artist celebrated for her excellence in glass work and her work giving back to the local arts community and community at large. The prize category will change annually - in 2018, the prize will be awarded in Fine Craft.

Established Artist, Arts Innovation and Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, selected by a jury, will receive:

  • $2500
  • Arts Awards bronze commemorative medal designed by artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt
  • Civic and Media Recognition

Emerging Artist Award recipients, selected by the Established Artist winner in each category, will receive:

  • $1000
  • Certificate of Recognition
  • Civic and Media Recognition

Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize recipients, selected by a jury, will receive:

  • $2000
  • Civic and Media Recognition

The City of Hamilton Arts Awards program is one of the oldest municipal-led arts awards programs in Canada. Recognizing the vital contribution that artists make to Hamilton, the Arts Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individual artists, educators and arts managers who engage and participate in the arts.

Mark Your Calendar

The Arts Awards will be presented at a public event during Hamilton Arts Week in early June (date to be announced), continuing a growing tradition of celebration and respect for Hamilton’s creative culture.
